Iren Dimitrova enjoyed a long performance career. She participated in a piano duo with E. Tsvetkova from 1974 to 1994 and in various chamber ensembles, accompanying violin, flute, voice, playing in piano duo and piano trio, and performing in Bulgaria and abroad.

 

Her teaching career is based on her interest in chamber music. In 1974 she became the first teacher of chamber music at the National Art School of Varna together with her colleague T. Staneva. Here she taught chamber music and piano accompaniment until 2011. Her students

Iren Dimitrova is a Bulgarian piano player and tutor in piano accompaniment and chamber music, born in 1950. She studied piano with prof. M.Mihailova and prof. E. Tsvetkova at the National School of Arts "Dobri Hristov" in Varna, Bulgaria, where she showed remarkable talent and graduated from the school with golden medal. She continued her education at the National Music Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria, studying in the piano class of prof. P. Pelishek, in the chamber music class of prof. K. Chilev and in the accompaniment class of prof. S. Shopova-Markova. After receiving her MA, she аccomplished a postgraduate specialization in chamber music and piano accompaniment at the Russian Academy of Music Gnesin, Moscow. She received her PhD in Arts at the National Music Academy of Sofia in 1995.

received numerous prizes at international and national competitions. After graduating, many gained successful careers as musicians all around the world. 

Additionally to her work in school, she also worked at university level. She taught piano at the Varna Free Univerisity "Chernorizets Hrabar" (1993 - 2007) and at the University of Shumen "Constantine of Preslav" (1995-1997). In 2011, she moved at  the Higher Institute of Music of Sfax, Tunisia, where she currently heads the piano department.

Iren Dimitrova is one of the first pedagogues in Bulgaria who dedicated their life to the piano accompaniment and chamber music teaching and her activity greatly contributed to the development of these disciplines in the country.

In 2011 she was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award of the State of Bulgaria.
